The Trip Begins
February 8, 2011 - 1 minute readOur inaugural Powder Detours trip began yesterday, and it started just right snow-wise.
Day 1 was a 10-15cm day exploring Hirafu and Hanazono, followed by a short transceiver training session in the afternoon. It pretty much snowed all day and carried on throughout the night, so we awoke to quite a bit more snow on day 2.
Unfortunately the snow pack had some instabilities in it and the winds up high were too strong, meaning the gates up high on Mt Annupuri were very unlikely to open. So we jumped in the vans and cruised round to Rusutsu. And what a good call it was…
Thigh-deep fresh in the trees all day long!
